UF Health Flagler Hospital Named Among Top 5% of Hospitals for Labor and Delivery Care

UF Health Flagler Hospital has announced that it is a recipient of the Healthgrades 2021 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™. This distinction places UF Health Flagler Hospital in the top 5% of all hospitals evaluated and recognizes the exceptional care provided to mothers during and after labor and delivery, according to Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.

“Being recognized by Healthgrades speaks highly of the commitment of the Maternity Care team at Flagler Health+,” said Jason Barrett, President & CEO of Flagler Health+. “To receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award once more is a great honor and underscores our commitment to the betterment of the physical, social and economic health here in our community – for this generation and beyond.”

“Now more than ever, there is a heightened awareness around the importance of quality health care, especially for expectant mothers and their families,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We’re pleased to recognize the recipients of the 2021 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award for providing superior care for women during labor and delivery.”

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcomes data for hospitals across 16 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2017 through 2019. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:

  • From 2017 through 2019, if all hospitals included in the analysis performed similarly to those that received the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, 138,318 patients with complications could potentially have been avoided*.
  • From 2017 through 2019, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 41.7% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award*.

This is the fourth consecutive year that UF Health Flagler Hospital has been recognized with the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award (2018-2021). Additionally, UF Health Flagler Hospital is a Five-Star Recipient for C-Section Delivery for four years in a row (2018-2021) and a Five-Star Recipient for Vaginal Delivery for seven consecutive years (2015-2021).

The team at UF Health Flagler Hospital is committed to helping families achieve their desired experience while always placing the health of mom and baby at the forefront. Expert obstetricians, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, surgical technicians and anesthesiologists work as a team to support each patient’s birthing plan.

UF Health Flagler Hospital’s Birth Unit has been designed to accommodate all types of delivery preferences. The team supports natural birthwith policies that support freedom to move around, and equipment, such as wireless monitoring, state of the art birthing beds to support upright labor and birth, birthing balls and showers or tubs for pain relief and labor support, and staff to provide ongoing labor care.

The hospital offers specialty rooms for low-intervention birth experiences and patients enjoy the unique amenities of a family-based unit. Cesareans are performed in operating rooms only when medically necessary which reduces risks to mom and baby.
