A Message About COVID-19

We are continuing to share information about how UF Health St. Johns is preparing should an outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) occur in our area. As more questions arise, we want to help our community further understand that we have a plan in place and are confident in our ability to provide the safest most effective care for our patients and community should the need arise. At Flagler Health+, our internal initiatives have included meticulous evaluation and testing of our negative air pressure isolation rooms, which help prevent airborne diseases from escaping the room and infecting other people. Staff working in key areas have received refresher training on donning and doffing personal protection equipment and all appropriate team members have also been briefed on proper protocols for evaluation and testing. We are also evaluating our visitor policy to reduce potential exposure to colds and flu, as we do every flu season. Further information may be shared about this at a later date. We are continuing to collaborate with the Florida Department of Health and key community agencies like St. Johns Fire Rescue, the St. Johns County Sherriff’s Office, St. Johns County, the City of St. Augustine and the St. Johns County School District.

Many people are asking what they can do personally to protect themselves. First of all, it is important to minimize misinformation and avoid panic. Secondly, we should all follow basic infection prevention guidelines like washing our hands often, avoiding contact with sick people, cleaning high touch surfaces, and staying home when we are sick. If you have cold or flu-like symptoms, contact your care provider to discuss your condition. The Department of Health also has a telephone number staffed by a registered nurse available 24 hours a day. If you or your provider have questions, you can call 904-209-3250. Centers for Disease Control is the best source of information should you still have questions. The information can be accessed here:
