UF Health Flagler Hospital Drills for Mass Casualty Event

Saint Augustine, FL –October 31, 2018 - UF Health Flagler Hospital conducted a hospital-wide mass casualty drill on Wednesday as part of its ongoing emergency preparedness efforts. In the simulated scenario, Flagler activated its incident command when a group of 60 students were injured during a roof collapse at a nearby cheerleading competition. Students from the UF Health Flagler Hospital Academy of Medical & Health Careers at Pedro Menendez High School participated in the drill as mock patients with varying degrees of injuries.

“Disaster readiness is a critical responsibility of ours,” commented UF Health Flagler Hospital President & CEO Jason Barrett. “Whether it’s a hurricane, mass casualty, hazardous material spill or other scenario, every member of our team must be prepared to take appropriate action in spontaneous and high stress situations. Drills like this one are key to those efforts.”

UF Health Flagler Hospital has a long history of partnering with area and state agencies to address disaster preparedness and works closely with the St. Johns County Department of Emergency Management.
