UF Health Flagler Hospital Achieves Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence for the Fifth Consecutive Year

UF Health Flagler Hospital announced today that it has received the 2018 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ from Healthgrades. The distinction places Flagler in the top 5% for clinical performance among nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for the 5th year in a row.

“Being presented with this award for the fifth consecutive year highlights our unwavering focus on delivering safe, quality care to our patients,” stated UF Health Flagler Hospital CEO Joe Gordy. “I am extremely proud of our performance and am honored to accept this award on behalf of our employees, our physician partners and the hospital board of trustees.”

One way Flagler is working to improve quality and safety for patients even further is through participation in the Florida Hospital Association Mission to Care Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (MTC HIIN). With a goal to reduce patient harm by 20 percent and readmissions by 12 percent by September 2018, ninety-five hospitals in Florida are working collaboratively to share and implement strategies aimed at reducing incidences of harm in eleven focus areas.

“Achieving the highest level of clinical quality year after year does not come by chance. Our outcomes reflect deliberate and ongoing investments in training, technology, evidence-based practice, collaboration and empowerment of our staff,” said Hospital President Jason Barrett. “We take the trust our patients and their loved ones place in us very seriously and make it our number one priority every day. As it relates to Healthgrades, I would like to extend my personal congratulations to every person on our team for this tremendous recognition.”

UF Health Flagler Hospital received the following additional distinctions from HealthGrades in 2018:

  • America’s 100 Best for Critical Care
  • America’s 100 Best for General Surgery
  • Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award
  • Joint Replacement Excellence Award
  • Gastrointestinal Care Excellence Award
  • Pulmonary Care Excellence Award
  • Five Star Rating in 17 Categories

“We commend hospitals that have achieved Healthgrades 2018 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to high-quality care for their patients,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospitals that meet these high-quality standards will continue to distinguish themselves with consumers making decisions about where to receive care.”

The 250 recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™ stand out among the rest for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2018 study period (2014-2016), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures —as measured by objective clinical outcomes performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
