Robert Marema, MD

Dr. Robert Marema​Nationally recognized as one of the most respected surgeons in bariatric medicine, Dr. Marema has performed over 7,000 bariatric procedures. He is a graduate of the University of Miami School of Medicine, and has served as a member of many reputable organizations including the American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Fellow of the American College of Surgery and a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery among others. His specializes in both open and laparoscopic surgery procedures as well as adjustable gastric banding. Being a successful bariatric patient himself has given Dr. Marema the unique understanding of the process from that perspective, and allows him to be informative, and thorough with patients as they navigate through bariatric medical options.

Christine Routhier, MD

Christine RouthierA board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Routhier specializes in the treatment of breast disease. She is a graduate of State University of New York Downstate, where she also completed her residency in general surgery. She subsequently practiced in the NYC area at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. She also helped to organize the core curriculum of education for the surgical residency at SUNY Downstate before relocating to St. Augustine in 2008. Dr. Routhier is the Medical Director of the UF Health St. JohnsBreast Cancer Program as well as a member of the inter-professional Cancer Committee.

Byron Stapleton, DO

Byron Stapleton​An accomplished board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Stapleton is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology before attending the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his General Surgery Residency at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan before practicing for several years in Wilmington, Ohio. His clinical interests include gastrointestinal surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery and complex abdominal hernias.

Whitney Marema, APRN

Whitney MaremaWhitney Marema, is a nurse practitioner with certification in Functional Medicine, allowing her to bridge conventional medicine with a lifestyle approach to disease, troublesome symptoms, and dysfunction. She provides post-operative care and coaching for bariatric patients in Flagler Health’s bariatric program as well as providing functional medicine evaluations and treatment for individuals seeking to find and treat the root cause of their complaints and dysfunctions. Marema’s specialties include gut dysfunction, GI complaints such as GERD, bloating, IBS, food intolerances and sensitivities, thyroid optimization, hormone imbalance, and autoimmune disease. Using traditional and functional testing as well as lifestyle modification such as a clean lifestyle and eating she helps patients optimize their function and overall health.
