About this Provider

Dr. Scott Putney specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremities as well as microvascular surgery. He earned his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville. He then went on to a fellowship program in hand surgery at the Christine Kleinert Institute at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

Dr. Putney and his staff treat patients with diseases and injuries to the hand and upper extremities including the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. He feels strongly that treatment should be individualized to the patient and that many common conditions can be managed without surgery. Shared decision making among the surgeon, family, and patient is always employed to make sure that the treatment plan is customized to each person’s goals. If surgery is pursued, Dr. Putney is highly experienced in current operative techniques including arthroscopy, upper extremity joint replacement, fracture fixation, minimally invasive surgery, and microsurgery. In some instances, this can be done under local anesthesia (numbing medicine) only in an office setting. This allows for minimal down time, patient convenience, and cost-effective care. He welcomes second opinions and complex problems as well as everyday upper extremity complaints and traumatic injuries.

Dr. Putney grew up in Richmond, VA. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three young daughters, playing golf and watching sports. He is board certified in both orthopedic surgery as well as hand surgery, an additional qualification with rigorous ongoing standards to ensure that you are getting the highest quality care.
